Batesville, IN— The Batesville Music & Arts Festival Committee announced Monday that based on an abundance of caution and in conjunction with Governor Eric Holcomb’s Back On Track plan, the 2020 Music & Arts Festival has been canceled.The two-day festival was scheduled for June 18-19 and marked the 47th consecutive year of the festival that celebrates the arts, music, and culture in the Batesville area. The Back On Track plan recommends that large events such as festivals are to remain closed until July 4. “We fully appreciate this annual festival that has been a summer tradition in our city,” said Mayor Mike Bettice. “Our top priority is to protect our citizens and feel it is necessary at this time to postpone the Music & Arts Festival but fully expect to renew it in 2021.”The festival was scheduled to include the Batesville Area Arts Council, Miss Shannon’s Music Studio Children’s Music Show, Eureka Band, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Five Lights Band, WRBI and local restaurants.The dates for the 2021 festival will be announced in the near future.

The scholarship, renewable annually, is awarded to a first or second generation, Jamaican-American female high school student attending college in Fall 2017. Valued at $1,250 yearly, the scholarship will encourage the recipient to achieve her four-year educational goal at a tertiary institution. Must be South Florida residentsIn order to meet the criteria for the scholarship opportunity, the candidate must be a resident of South Florida, and have a high school graduating 3.5 GPA, which must be maintained throughout the tenure of the scholarship. Application must be submitted by Thursday, February 15, 2018.Commitment to be a volunteerAs part of the qualifying criteria, the candidate is required to demonstrate commitment as a volunteer in community projects by performing a minimum of forty hours per semester. In addition, the candidate must compose an essay (not more than two (2) pages, double-spaced), explaining why she should be awarded this scholarship. The applicant’s study program should also include credits in International Studies and/or Women’s studies, if available. The application material should include the following: (1) the essay, (2) list of volunteer/community projects and (3) school transcript. Kolkata: Mayor Firhad Hakim, who is also in charge of the state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs department, will send a proposal to the state government to designate Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) for maintenance of all city roads and Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) for maintenance of all city bridges and flyovers.The proposal will also contain the appeal to designate the state Public Works Department (PWD) to carry out maintenance of bridges and flyovers in the districts. If the entire maintenance work is done by KMC for roads and KMDA for the flyovers, then work can be done quickly and in a smoother way. Sougata Roy managed to win the Dum Dum seat but lagged behind in the Rajarhat- Gopalpur Assembly segment that comes under state Technical Education minister Purnendu Basu. Mimi Chakraborty from Jadavpur seat managed to take a lead in all the Assembly segments as did Abhishek Banerjee from Diamond Harbour seat with a whooping lead of over 87,000 votes from Metiabruz in the city’s fringes. State Agricultural Marketing minister Tapan Dasgupta, MLA from Saptagram under Hooghly LS seat, state Labour minister Moloy Ghatak of Asansol North from Asansol LS seat, State Correctional Affairs minister Ujjal Biswas from Krishnanagar South under Krishnanagar LS seat also failed to give the party candidates leads in their respective Lok Sabha seats. BJP won Hooghly and Asansol seats but lost the Krishnanagar seat to TMC’s Mahua Moitra.
