first_img A former detective has sued Netflix and the directors of Making a Murderer for defamation. On Monday, Andrew Colborn, a former Mantiowoc County Sheriff’s (MTSO) detective, filed a lawsuit against Netflix and Making a Murderer directors Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi, and claimed that the popular docuseries defamed his reputation, reported Deadline. The lawsuit, which was filed in Wisconsin Circuit Court on Dec. 17, claimed that the docuseries was edited to make it look like that Colborn and other officers planted evidence to frame Steven Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey, for the murder of photographer Teresa Halbach on October 31, 2005.“Defendants omitted, distorted, and falsified material and significant facts in an effort to portray plaintiff as a corrupt police officer who planted evidence to frame an innocent man,” said the court filing. “Defendants did so with actual malice and in order to make the film more profitable and more successful in the eyes of their peers, sacrificing and defaming the plaintiff’s character and reputation in the process.”The lawsuit follows the debut of Making a Murderer: Part 2, which hit Netflix on October 19, 2018. The second season expands on the plot of Making a Murderer, and highlights Avery’s conviction and the emotional toll of the process on Avery and his family.Netflix, Demos, and Ricciardi have not commented on the case.More on Geek.com:Netflix, WB Settle Satanic Lawsuit Over ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ Here’s Everything Coming to Netflix in January 2019Netflix Reveals First Look, Voice Cast of ‘The Dark Crystal’ Series Stay on target What to Stream on Netflix This Weekend11 Other Old-School Nick Shows That Should Get Netflix Movies last_img read more
