Copies of Pokemon X and Y are still flying off store shelves, but Nintendo isn’t standing still when it comes to producing that next game carrying the Pokemon name. But the game I’m talking about isn’t the next core Pokemon game, it’s a more niche title that sees Pikachu take center stage.Japanese public broadcasting organization NHK recently conducted an interview with Tsunekazu Ishihara, president of The Pokemon Company. That interview is due to air on October 28. However, NHK has advertised the interview and with it given us a glance at an as yet unannounced new Pokemon game for the 3DS.Apparently the game has been in development since the summer and takes advantage of the front facing camera on the 3DS. The game is able to detect your facial expressions and then recreate them on Pikachu’s face. And yes, it does look very strange to see Pikachu performing such expressions. It’s unclear what kind of game this actually is, but from watching the video I’d guess it will sit somewhere between Nintendogs and Tamagotchi, with the player interacting and looking after Pikachu. There’s also speculation that this Pikachu game will somehow be linked to Pokemon X and Y.This looks to be a niche title aimed squarely at the Japanese market, but then Pikachu is such a well know character I wouldn’t be surprised to see the game head to western markets. If it is just about looking after Pikachu, though, it would need to carry a budget price point to sell well.
