Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir on Saturday congratulated Navdeep Saini for his international debut and also took the opportunity to slam Bishen Singh Bedi and Chetan Chauhan, the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) members who had written off Saini.Bedi and Chauhan were part of a faction of the DDCA members who did not approve of Gambhir’s choice to bring in Saini in the Delhi Ranji Trophy team. But ever since Gambhir’s backing, Saini has risen through the ranks at a rapid pace and finally made his India debut in the ongoing first T20 international against the West Indies in Lauderhill, Florida.Saini, who came into the attack in the 5th over, made a dream start by picking up the wickets of Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer off successive deliveries in his first over itself. He picked up the wicket of Kieron Pollard for 49 in the final over without conceding a single run to finish with 3 wickets for 17 from 4 overs.India restricted West Indies to 95 for 9 in 20 overs and then chased down the target with 16 balls to spare and 4 wickets in hand to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series.Gambhir took this opportunity to laud Saini and hit out at Bedi and Chauhan.”Kudos Navdeep Saini on ur India debut. U already have 2 wkts even before u have bowled- @BishanBedi & @ChetanChauhanCr. Their middle stumps are gone seeing debut of a player whose cricketing obituary they wrote even before he stepped on the field, shame!!!” Gambhir tweeted.advertisementKudos Navdeep Saini on ur India debut. Saini has also impressed with his pace in his first IPL season and was the fastest among Indians, clocking 152.85 kmph, which was second only to South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada’s at 154.23 kph.Saini who has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit, plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. In the 2019 season, he picked 11 wickets in 13 matches, bowling 141 dot balls – needless to say, Saini was again among the top bowlers in the 12th season of the Indian Premier League.Till 2013, Navdeep Saini, had not played a lot of cricket with the leather ball. He used to play with tennis balls in his hometown and he would often earn Rs 200 per match.Few people know that Saini’s cricketing journey began after he was identified by former India opener Gautam Gambhir during a 15-minute net session. Those 15 minutes later proved to be a groundbreaking time for his career.
