Marta Milans will star in the New York premiere of Tanya Saracho’s Mala Hierba. Joining her in the cast are Roberta Colindrez, Sandra Marquez and Ana Nogueira. The production will begin performances as part of Second Stage’s twelfth annual Uptown Series on July 14 at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre. The play, directed by Jerry Ruiz, will open on July 28. Mala Hierba follows Liliana (Milans), a seemingly impeccable trophy wife of a border magnate living in Texas. But beneath her polished exterior lies a fierce determination to survive at any cost. When her true desires break the surface, she is forced to decide between obligation and the price of freedom. Milans appeared as a series regular on ABC’s Killer Women; her additional screen credits include The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Strangers and Shame. Colindrez’s stage credits include Fun Home, Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind and The Complete and Condensed Stage Directions of Eugene O’Neill: vol 2. Marquez’s regional credits include The Motherf*cker with the Hat, The Upstairs Concierge and Mojada. Nogueira has appeared on the New York stage previously in Knives and Other Sharp Objects, I’m Pretty F*cked Up and The Boy in the Bathroom.
